Team Updates
Varsity - we had a great weekend tournament, falling to #2 Lakeville North in the Championship at the 36-team Southwest Challenge in Marshall, MN. We are looking forward to starting conference play and are striving for a conference title this season. We know we are cabable of improving our game by focusing on our passing and defense in addition to utilizing our strengths of serving/blocking/attacking. We are proud of our 8-1 start to the season!
Junior Varsity continues to improve showing their fans at this past weekend's tournament that they will never give up no matter the score. Our goal this upcoming week is to always think 2 steps ahead of the current play. JV would also like to thank the parents who cheered for us at the tournament
B Squad - While the B squad lost in two to Wayzata last Tuesday, they played some dramatic sets during a Saturday tournament at Eastview. We have permanently switched to a 6-2 offense and continue to work on covering tips and deep corners while executing perimeter defense. Our serving is always reliable, our blocking has come around very well, and our hitters -- front and back row -- show sureness in themselves. We learned a lot from playing together for a full day.
Scores:
St. Michael-Albertville 21-25, 10-25 L
Benilde-St. Margaret 19-25, 16-25 L
Totino Grace 26-24, 15-25 tie
Lakeville South 17-25, 12-25 L
Stats:
Team serving: 101-for-110 serving. Team kills: 33. Team assists: 31. Blocks: Eischens 2, Klehr 1-1/2, Kiel 1, Hughes 1, R.Johnson 1/2. Aces: Larson 4, M.Johnson 4, Leean 3, Mwaura 2, Klehr 2, R.Johnson 1.
Overall record: 1-5-1
9th Grade
Wow, another week of volleyball has gone by and the 9th grade team members are one week into their high school careers. On Tuesday night we played Wayzata at home and both teams were defeated. Our main goal was to play better than our first match by putting more points on the scoreboard and both teams accomplished that! This weekend the 9A team went to our first tournament at Lakeville North. We played four matches and won our first match of the season vs. Kennedy. We made it to the championship game of our pool and finished second out of four teams. We had a great day and gained a lot of court experience. This first victory gave us more confidence in ourselves and a
stronger team spirit! Next week we are looking forward to our first away game Tuesday night at Eastview.
Thanks to everyone for their continued support this season ~ Go JAGS!
